We’ve already had “Snakes on a Plane“, now it’s time for “Swine Flu on a Train”! Before this starts sounding too much like a Dr. Seuss book, let’s cut to the chase…
Vials containing the Swine Flu virus exploded on a Swiss train on Monday. Fortunately, the virus that escaped was NOT the mutated Swine Flu virus has killed about 150 people in Mexico.
According to police reports, a lab technician with the Swiss National Center for Influenza in Geneva had been to Zurich collecting eight vials. Five of these vials held the H1N1 Swine Flu virus. These samples were going to be used to create a new test for Swine Flu.
The containers were being cooled with dry ice, however, the ice was not packed correctly. The gas subsequently built up too much pressure and the containers exploded just as the train was stopping at a local station.
The police halted the train and evacuated it, isolating all those on board for about 60 minutes. A specialist then informed everyone aboard that the sample on the train posed no risk for humans.
In related news, health officials are now looking into five “probable cases” of swine flu in New Jersey. The cases are said to be mild, according to published reports, and none of the victims has been hospitalized.
A case of Swine Flu has now been confirmed within the offices of Ernst and Young, the major accounting firm based in New York. The incident was communicated via a company-wide e-mail, according to media reports.
Florida’s surgeon general has stated that there are NO confirmed reports of Swine Flu in the state following reports from a local TV station in Orlando that said a tourist at Walt Disney World was diagnosed with the virus.
At a press conference in Tallahassee, Surgeon General Dr. Ana Viamonte Ros said on Tuesday afternoon that there were “no confirmed cases in the state, neither in Orlando nor anywhere else.”
