F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler was taken by helicopter to a local hospital after he fell from the stage during a performance at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally being held in South Dakota.

Tyler, who is 61, took a tumble after the sound system failed during "Love in an Elevator".  Steven was trying to keep the crowd entertained by dancing around on stage, said Mike Sanborn, spokesperson for the Buffalo Chip Campground, which was the host for the outdoor concert.

Tyler was dancing on the catwalk when he slipped backward onto a few fans.  Security staff swooped in to help him and the record applauded once Tyler got back up.

"He was good natured about it," Sanborn said. "He was in good spirits when he got in the helicopter. He was talking and joking with the physician."

"It was an unfortunate end to an extraordinary evening."

Tyler suffered minor head and neck injuries as well as a shoulder injury.

Around 12:15am, guitarist Joe Perry announced to the crowd that Tyler was being flown to the hospital and that the band was done for the evening.

It happened about halfway through the performance, Sanborn said.
