Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said today that President Barack Obama “would be impeached” if the U.S. government defaulted on its debt.
King made the bold statement via Twitter, posting:
“STOP talking about default. The 1st dime of each $1 of revenue services debt. Obama would be impeached if he blocked debt payments. C C & B!”
Congressman King voted, along with several other House Republicans, for the so-called “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan that would introduce a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget. Last week, the Senate dismissed the House bill.
Interestingly enough, King isn’t the only Republican suggesting that Obama could be impeached.
Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said earlier this month it would be an “impeachable offense” for Obama to raise the debt ceiling without the approval of Congress.
Back in April, Bruce Fein drew up articles of impeachment hoping that House Republicans would introduce them and, in March, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) said the air attacks on Libya were impeachable acts.
