Renowned scientist Stephen Hawking is "very ill" and has been hospitalized, according to a report from Cambridge University, where he is a professor.

Hawking is now undergoing a battery of tests at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Wheelchair-bound Hawking is the author of "A Brief History of Time" which offers various explanations (in layman's terms) for the origins of our universe.

Hawking has Lou Gehrig's Disease (often known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS). The disease is almost always fatal after about three years, although Stephen Hawking has lived with the disease for over 40 years.

Hawking uses a wheelchair for mobility and a speaks via a voice synthesizer. It in unknown at this point whether or not Hawking’s current illness is directly related to his ALS.
