The Force is strong in this one.
Ever wondered what happened to “Star Wars Kid”? The video, which you can watch below, is one of the most-watched YouTube videos of all time. It may very well be the original “viral video”.
Well, it turns out Ghyslain Raza A.K.A. Star Wars Kid did pretty well for himself – after a lawsuit or two and some intense therapy.
The victim of some intense bullying as a result of the video going viral online, Ghyslain dropped out of his high school in Quebec, was diagnosed with clinical depression, and checked into a psychiatric facility for kids.
Ghyslain’s parents eventually sued the families of his three classmates who uploaded the video back in 2003 for about $250,000. According to the lawsuit, which resulted in an out-of-court settlement, “Ghyslain had to endure, and still endures today, harassment and derision from his high-school mates and the public at large.”
Now, Ghyslain is back. He’s in his early 20s and he’s reemerged as the president of the Patrimoine Trois-Rivières, a conservation society that aims to preserve the cultural heritage of his hometown of Trois-Rivières.
Not bad, Star Wars Kid…not bad at all.
