The new Star Trek flick from J.J. Abrams managed to beam up $76.5 million in tickets at North American theaters in its first three and a half days of release. Paramount has got to be happy about that…it was the top-grossing film of the weekend.
Even though, Paramount was a bit nervous about the movie heading into opening weekend, Star Trek pulled through. The film has been dubbed as “not your father’s Star Trek” and has even claimed that non-Trekkies would enjoy the film.
The new Star Trek movie cost about $140 million to make. Will it become a summer blockbuster. It’s way too soon to tell, but I’ll be beaming myself into the theater as soon as I have a chance, that much is certain.
