Actress Angelina Jolie and model Kelly Gray were fired by upscale clothing company St. John’s on Friday.
Kelly Gray is the daughter of the brand’s founders Robert Gray and Marie Gray. Jolie has been featured in advertisements for the company since 2005.
Glenn McMahon, CEO for St. John’s, says the decision was based on the belief that the pair “overshadowed the brand.”
“We wanted to make a clean break from actresses and steer away from blondes and cleanse the palette,” McMahon added.
The company has decided to instead use model Karen Elson, the wife of Jack White of the White Stripes.
McMahon went on to say “We needed to show a modern point of view of St. John. We have evolved.”
