Southwest Airlines is about to offer a wide-scale release of their in-flight WiFi service. It’s been in beta testing and is set to make its debut in early 2010. According to preliminary testers, the initial results were “satisfactory” and Southwest is now ready to move forward with the program’s launch.
The passengers who beta tested the program were allowed to check e-mail in flight and also watch online videos and browse the internet. Southwest will, however, restrict the use of VoIP, as has been standard practice for airlines offering in-flight internet.
There has been no word on pricing for these features as of yet, although pricing options should be released before the end of this year.
