Saturday Night Live made a rare departure from comedy in opening the show last night with a special tribute to the lives lost in the Newtown, Connecticut shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
The sketch comedy show opened with the New York City Children’s Chorus singing “Silent Night.”
Perhaps the line “sleep in heavenly peace” has never had more meaning that it does in the aftermath of Adam Lanza’s bloody massacre that killed some 20 children on Friday morning, all aged 6 and 7.
Following the traditional Christmas carol, the members of the choir then shouted, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
The decal simply reads SHES, for Sandy Hook Elementary School.
