flippaIf you’ve been in the web world for longer than a week, you’re probably already familiar with Sitepoint.

The internet brainstorming site and community forum had previously spun off their “Design” section to 99designs.com, and now they have done the same with their “Marketplace” section.

The Sitepoint Marketplace, which is primarily used by those who flip websites for profit, is now Flippa.  Flippa.com is currently in Beta but the good news is that they’ve carried over their user accounts, so you likely won’t need to make a new account at Flippa.

From the website:

Why Flippa.com? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!

In a nut shell, the SitePoint Marketplace has outgrown its tab on sitepoint.com. For this marketplace to remain the #1 location for buying and selling web sites, and for us to properly service the needs of our buyer and seller community, it simply had to have its own identity – it had to be set free from sitepoint.com. Once you’ve had a chance to look around the site we’re confident that you’ll agree it was the right move.

There’s not much on the new site at present, just some fake auctions to test the waters. Still, it will be interesting to see whether or not the Sitepoint crowd is supportive of moving this portion of the site.
