Shannon Johnson, a 34-year-old mother in Denver who told police her 13-month-old son drowned in the tub while she was playing Facebook, has been arrested on child abuse charges, according to police.
Johnson is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
When police arrived at Johnson’s home after the boy died last September, the mom said she often allowed the boy to bathe alone because he was “independent” and she “didn’t want him to be known as a mama’s boy.”
Johnson said she was playing a game called “Cafe World” on Facebook and checking in with friends as her son was dying, according to police.
When she didn’t hear any sounds coming from the bathroom after three or four minutes, she went in to check on her son and found him slumped over in the bath tub.
This is the first time Facebook has indirectly contributed to the death of a child. Last October, Alexandra Tobias killed her baby for interrupting her game of Farmville.
