More gold for the USA!
Shani Davis has won the gold medal for the U.S. in Men’s 1000-meter speedskating. Davis now becomes the only man in history to win the Olympic 1,000-meter race twice.
Mo Tae-bum of South Korea finished in second place, just 0.018 seconds behind Davis’ winning mark of 1:08.94. Chad Hedrick of the U.S. took the bronze medal with a time of 1:09.32.
Davis, who called Stephen Colbert a jerk two months ago, is the current world record holder and was also the defending Olympic champion going into the event. This season, Davis competed in the 1,000-meter four times and had not lost once. He was pretty much a lock.
Davis will go for yet another gold medal on Saturday, when he competes in the 1,500, which is speedskating’s main event.
