seth macfarlane Seth Macfarlane Calls The Simpsons Too Safe

There's a war brewing among cartoon dads.  It seems that Family Guy and The Simpsons are slugging it out over who has the funnier dad, Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin.

Al Jean, producer of The Simpsons, recently accused Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane of “lacking originality.”

MacFarlane then took a shot at Homer and the gang saying that their jokes have become “too safe.”

In an interview just before the release of the new Family Guy "Star Wars" parody "Something Something Something Dark Side", Seth MacFarlane, 36, said:

“I think what happens to a lot of shows is they achieve a certain measure of success and then there is a reluctance to be as risky as you were at the beginning.  Family Guy has tried and, I think, done a pretty good job of maintaining that level of risk-taking as we’ve gone along.  The second you start worrying about damaging the franchise as a result of risky story- telling, you’re done.”

As evidence that the war is heating up, Family Guy recently aired an episode where a sex-starved Quagmire got freaky with Marge Simpson before killing off Homer, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie.

In response, The Simpsons recently showed a mugshot of Peter Griffin with the word “plagiariser” written underneath.

Seth added, however, that he has no desire to match The Simpsons' longevity. He says:

“There’s no way. I haven’t got the energy to carry on that long.”
