It came down to the two country teens. The winner of American Idol season 10 was crowned tonight, and Scotty McCreery edged out Lauren Alaina for the title.
The 17-year-old McCreery defeated the 16-year-old Alaina after a record-setting 122 million votes were cast, but Scotty promised that the two would “stay together.” Could a future dual concert tour be in their futures?
Along the way tonight, we got visits from past Idol season 10 contestants as well as a few previous Idol winners. We also saw Jack Black, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Tom Jones, Tim McGraw, Bono, Carrie Underwood, Gladys Knight, Marc Anthony, and even Judas Priest, who took the stage with James Durbin.
We saw Jennifer Lopez shake what her momma gave her on stage and we got to hear Steven Tyler sing “Dream On”.
In the end, though, this night belonged to Scotty McCreery, who could barely even sing his new single, “I Love You This Big” after it was announced that he had won. Instead, he gave out hugs to his family members and fellow contestants, and could barely stand on his feet by the time the night was through.
Yes, Scotty McCreery was, duh, WINNING!
