Two men wielding swords planned to kidnap, rob, and kill soul singer Joss Stone. The men were arrested in Britain, authorities said Wednesday.
The suspects were caught on Monday in a red Fiat Punto near the singer’s home in southwest England after police received reports of a suspicious vehicle in the neighborhood.
“Police attended an address in Cullompton yesterday morning after alert residents notified officers about a suspicious-looking vehicle,” a spokesperson for the Devon and Cornwall Police said.
“Officers attended the area at around 10am and subsequently arrested the occupants of a red Fiat Punto,” the spokesman continued.
“Major crime detectives are continuing to investigate,” he added.
The pair were carrying swords, rope, and even a body bag…along with maps and aerial photos of Stone’s home in Devon.
“The two men in custody had in their possession information relating to an individual in the Cullompton area and items which lead us to suspect that they may have intended to commit a criminal offense,” said Detective Inspector Steve Parker.
It is unclear if Stone, 24, was home at the time but she has been made aware of the arrests.
It is believed the unidentified men, ages 33 and 30, had driven south from Manchester, 200 miles away in northern England.
“We’re unable to say anymore at this time, but I would like to thank the local residents for reporting the suspicious car,” Parker said in a statement. “It’s important to stress that no properties have been burgled and no individuals have been harmed.”
Stone, a friend of Prince William and Kate Middeton, has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide.
