F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

sandra bullock Sandra Bullock is Top Star of 2009 Box Office

That's right, Sandra Bullock. Not George Clooney. Not Megan Fox. Not Denzel Washington.

Sandra Bullock was Hollywood's top star at the box office in 2009.

Quigley Publishing Co. released its annual list on Thursday of top money-making stars based on a survey of hundreds of theater execs - and Bullock came out on top based on the strength of her roles in "The Proposal" and "The Blind Side".

Is anyone else surprised by this? I mean, she hadn't even appeared in a movie in two years before 2009.

Bullock had her first box office smash with "Speed" back in 1994 and became one of Hollywood's biggest celebs, but before "The Proposal" she hadn't starred in a film since 2007.

The last woman to top Quigley's list was Julia Roberts back in 1999. She didn't make the cut in 2009 after "Duplicity" bombed big time in theaters.

Sandra Bullock is the eighth female to nab the top spot on Quigley's list, which the company has put out each year since 1932.

Quigley Publishing says the list doesn't rank stars solely based on how much cash their movies raked in, but also on what theater owners say about who attracts audiences on their star power alone.

Bullock wouldn't have been my first guess, but congrats Sandra!
