That unpredictable bunch over at 4chan is at it again. You just never know whether they will use their powers for good or evil.
This time they have hacked the MobileMe account of actress Salma Hayek and posted the account details on their Anonymous board.
The poster who began the thread (the O.P.) posted the following factoids for all to see and use to access Salma Hayek’s MobileMe e-mail account.
Her email address is shayek@mac.com
Go to me.com, forgot password, type shayek@mac.com
Her birthday is Sept. 2
Answer to change password question is: frida
What’s amazing is that most of this info was obtained from pure guesswork. There is a lesson here for all of us to be careful when choosing secret codes, passwords, etc.
As Electronic Pulp points out:
By choosing “forgot password,” one is taken to a page that asks for the user’s birthday for verification. Salma Hayek’s own Wikipedia page revealed that she was indeed born on September 2, and by entering this, one is taken to a next page asking for an answer for a secret question. The secret question reads simply: “favorite character.” It would take anyone who knows Salma Hayek as an actress only a few guesses to arrive at “frida” and strike the pot of gold which is her Apple MobileMe e-mail account.
Do we need to be more creative when thinking up our secret codes, or does Apple need to be more secure? I would say “D – All of the above”.
