I was just 11 years old when Sally Ride made her historic first flight into space back in 1983, but the memory of watching that momentous milestone will stick with me for the rest of my life.
Ride died today at the age of 61 after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
“Sally was a national hero and a powerful role model,” said President Barack Obama in a prepared statement. “Sally’s life showed us that there are no limits to what we can achieve and I have no doubt that her legacy will endure for years to come.”
