Jennifer Garner she isn’t, but Anna Chapman, the red-headed beauty accused of spying for the Russian government (A.K.A. Anya Chapman), sure makes us believe that Sydney Bristow, the character Garner portrayed in the J.J. Abrams series Alias, is alive and well, thank you very much.
Chapman didn’t lurk in the shadows either. On the contrary, she seemed to revel in the spotlight.
The 28-year-old divorcee was spotted gallivanting around New York, has been photographed partying it up at trendy events, and posted some sexy pics of herself to Facebook.
Chapman and several other alleged spies have been charged with conspiracy to act as an agent of a foreign government, as well conspiracy to commit money laundering.
The FBI alleges that the Russian intelligence service, the SVR, sent spies to infiltrate the U.S. under phony names so they could could build relationships with sources and gather information without raising a hint of suspicion. Some of the agents lived as married couples and had children who grew up not even knowing that their parents were actually Russian.
The charges carry a maximum penalty of five and twenty years in prison, respectively.
