Rupert Murdoch has sparked an uproar with his remarks this weekend about Scientology.
As the divorce saga between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes plays out, Murdoch took to Twitter this weekend to weigh in on the drama.
“Scientology back in news,” Murdoch tweeted. “Very weird cult, but big, big money involved with Tom Cruise either number two or three in [hierarchy].”
The media mogul followed up that comment with another controversial tweet.
“Watch Katie Holmes and Scientology story develop,” Murdoch wrote. “Something creepy, maybe even evil, about these people.”
What about the fact that Cruise is known for being somewhat sensitive when it comes to being challenged regarding his Scientology beliefs?
“Since Scientology tweet hundreds of attacks,” Murdoch wrote later. “Expect they will increase and get worse and maybe threatening. Still stick to my story.”
Murdoch’s comments come as word begins to spread that Holmes may have filed for divorce to keep Cruise from shipping their daughter Suri out to sea on a Scientology “boot camp” cruise.
Murdoch didn’t stop at criticizing Scientology. He also went on the offensive against Mitt Romney‘s presidential campaign.
“Met Romney last week,” Murdoch wrote. President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign will be tough to beat, Murdoch added, unless Romney “drops old friends from team and hires some real pros. Doubtful.”
