Director Roman Polanski will stay in prison outside Zurich until at least Monday, according to a Swiss official on Friday.
Polanski will not be placed under house arrest in Switzerland for at least three more days, as he has not yet fulfilled all the requirements to make sure he remains in his chalet in the luxury resort of Gstaad, said Justice Ministry spokesman Folco Galli.
Polanskim 76, needs to post $4.5 million bail, give up his identity papers and be fitted with a special monitoring bracelet.
Polanski isn't able to leave his chalet because the ministry is still trying to determine whether or now they will extradite him to the U.S. for having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl back in 1977. Authorities in L.A. want him sentenced after 31 years as a fugitive.
Polanski's whereabouts were determined on Friday when his attorney, Lorenz Erni, entered a prison in Winterthur, which is located about 16 miles northeast of Zurich.
Erni didn't speak with the press following his 80-minute visit in the prison where Polanski is currently being held as an extradition detainee. This gives the director more privileges than prisoners who have committed crimes in Switzerland.
