UPDATE: Roddy Piper may not have terminal cancer. See update here for details.
There is some sad news today from the world of professional wrestling.
Recently, WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper had been canceling several appearances citing serious illness. This led to a trip to the doctor, where Roddy Piper learned that his cancer had returned, and this time it’s expected to be terminal.
Piper, 55, was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma back in November of 2006, after doctors discovered a cancerous tumor on a disk in his spine.
At the time, he was touring Europe with the WWE, so he had to leave that tour and return to the U.S. to undergo surgery. He spent lots of time in the hospital and underwent radiation treatment.
“Hot Rod” eventually beat the disease. Now, however, it seem to have returned stronger than ever.
Historically, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma has a very low survival rate, especially by those in their 50s.
Beating cancer twice would be an inspirational achievement, but it doesn’t seem very probable this time.
