Robin Gibb, member of the iconic group the Bee Gees, is dead after a lengthy battle with colon and liver cancer.
He was 62 years old.
His spokesperson released a prepared statement that reads:
“The family of Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, announce with great sadness that Robin passed away today following his long battle with cancer and intestinal surgery. The family have asked that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
Two years ago, Gibb was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer. He had been hospitalized several times over the course of the last few years and, most recently, was hospitalized with pneumonia last month.
He went into a coma, only to miraculously emerge several days later.
Gibb was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1994 and the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
