Rachel Alexandra has won the 2009 Preakness Stakes in Baltimore, Maryland. The filly won the second jewel of the Triple Crown and ran the race in just under 2 minutes.
Rachel Alexandra’s payout odds were two-to-one giving bettors $200 for every $100 bet.
There were a number of history-making factoids in this race. Let’s review…
This was the first time that the winner of the Kentucky Oaks ran in the Preakness. It was also the 70th time the favorite has won the race. No horse had won the Preakness from the number 13 post – until today.
This marked the first time in 85 years that a filly won the race, the last was Nellie Morse way back in 1924.
