Fail Nation: A Visual Romp Through the World of Epic Fails.

wachovia citi Profiting from Trends: Real Time ExampleIt's been a while since we've given you a step-by-step example of how to profit from trends.  Today looks to be one of the best opportunities in a long time to give this method a whirl.  If you've been on the fence and don't know where to start, take notes.

Let's take a look at today's headlines.  Whoa, Citigroup is buying Wachovia.  That's pretty huge.  There are a lot of Wachovia and Citigroup shareholders who want to know what's going on.  Heck, lots of average Americans probably want to know what the heck is going on too.

Looking at Google Trends, I see something fairly astonishing.  Take a look at these items currently in the Top 50, as of 12PM EDT...

1. Wachovia

2. Wachovia Securities

4. Wachovia Buyout

5. Wachovia Stock Quote

8. Wachovia Bank Failure

10. Wachovia News

11. Wachovia Citibank

14. Citigroup.com

16. Citigroup Wachovia

18. Wachovia Shareholders

19. Wachovia Citi

20. Citigroup Investor Relations

23. Wachovia Sold

32. Wachovia Sale

35. Wachovia Takeover

37. Wachovia Bought Out

39. Citigroup Headquarters

40. Evergreen Investments

49. Citigroup News

That's 19 items just in the Top 50, folks.  If I were looking at this, I would fire up my Adwords account.  First, I would find something that is EASY to convert since this is going to be cheap traffic and what these people really want is news, not your crappy CPA offer.

Let's head over to COPEAC .  They just happen to be one of my favorites.  Of course, there are several affiliate companies to choose from, just refer to our master list.  Now, let's check out their e-mail submit offers.

If you don't know, an e-mail submit is where the advertiser will pay you to 'capture' someone's e-mail address.  Usually, they do this in exchange for some sort of free gift that they get after completing a brief survey.  You, on the other hand, will usually make $1 - $2 per completed e-mail submit.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but with an insane amount of traffic, say, based on the top financial news story of the decade, it can add up quickly.

So, looking at COPEAC, we see...

Purple iPhone - E-Mail Submit

We also see...

$1,000 Gas Card - E-Mail Submit

OK, this is all well and good, but how do we tie all of this together?  You're not going to be able to bid on Wachovia and Citigroup traffic in Adwords and send them straight to your CPA offer.  Google really dislikes this and will 'slap' your campaign.

The best way to get search traffic to your CPA offer is by using a poll.  You just want to create a one-page site that has SOMETHING to do with the Wachovia / Citigroup merger and ask a thought-provoking question that will encourage your user to VOTE.

Step 1: Create Your Poll

Example:

"National Poll Authority

Wachovia Taken Over by Citigroup - 4th Largest Bank in the U.S. Fails!  Are You Concerned about Our Economy?

Cast Your Vote Now and Get an Apple iPhone! Never Miss Breaking News Again...

Vote YES or NO"

If you take the gas card example, you could say, "Cast Your Vote Now and Get a $1,000 Gas Card to Ease the Pain in Your Wallet".  You get the idea.

Make SURE that you include a Privacy Policy, About Us, Disclosure, etc.  You also want to make this page look a lot prettier than I have done here.  You want to copy a few relevant articles from Wikipedia and paste them down at the bottom of your site so that Google sees that you have actual CONTENT on your site.

If you don't know how to do this, or you don't know how to create a poll, I highly recommend Poll Factory.  Poll Factory will allow you to create quick and easy poll sites literally with the push of a few buttons.

When they click on their 'vote' of Yes or No, THEN they will be redirected to your e-mail submit offer.

Step 2: Fire Up Adwords

Now that you're poll page is ready to rock n' roll, fire up Adwords and create a Search campaign (I'm going to assume that you know how to use Adwords PPC...if you don't this is where PPC-Coach would benefit you greatly).

Step 3: Create Your Ads, Place Your Bids

You want to keep this campaign running on the Search network since that is where all the action is currently.  You want your ad to be compelling, much like the headline of your poll page:

Wachovia Bought by Citi
Can the Economy Survive?
Have Your Say Now

You get the idea.  Set your display and target domains.  By the way, you can either A) buy a brand new domain with relevant keywords in your title to use for this or B) use an existing, generic domain of yours and put this campaign in a sub-domain or sub-folder.

Now just copy and paste your keywords right from Google Trends.  I recommend that you surround them with quotes ("Wachovia Citigroup") AND with brackets ([Wachovia Citigroup]) so that you're targeting 'phrase' and 'exact' match only.  If you just use 'broad' you will get eaten alive.  Again, this is where PPC-Coach Adwords Wrapper will really help you.

Now set your bids.  At most, you're making $1 - $2 on each conversion to start low, $0.40 - $0.50 to get started, then scale back and see how low you can go while still getting impressions.

Now, sit back and watch the results.  The key to this game is to be QUICK and to be AHEAD of the game.  I already checked most of the keywords listed in Trends and there are almost NO Google ads showing for those terms.

There you go.  Have fun and good luck!

Now, stop reading.  Start making money.
