Students at Danvers High School in Massachusetts have been banned from uttering the word “meep,” a word which is commonly used by Muppet Show character Beaker.

Principal Thomas Murray banned the strange word after school officials received word of a student uprising that had bee brewing on Facebook.  Students were planning to stage a major disruption on school grounds using the “meep.”

Parents received an automated phone call from the principal warning that if students say or use the word “meep” in any way at the school, they could be suspended.

“Meep” has no official definition, but it has become a very popular utterance for students when they are at a loss for words. The Urban Dictionary defines “meep” as another word for “ouch,” or “uh-oh.” It can also be used as a substitute for graphic language.
