There are 677 post office locations in the U.S. that may close as part of some new cost-cutting efforts that have been by the USPS to the US Government Postal Regulatory Commission.
The study, called “Making Sense of It All: An Examination of USPS’s Station and Branch Optimization Initiative and Delivery Route Adjustments” states that the U.S. Postal Service is expected to lose approximately $7.1 billion by the end of the 2009 fiscal year. The USPS intends to minimize the damage via post office closures, price increases and other efficiency measures.
The proposed methodology aims to save $1 billion annually. The Post Office closures list contains post offices that have been identified for “full study” for closure, meaning not all of the branches list will eventually shut down.
