So the search is over.  Mike Shanahan is the new coach of the Washington Redskins.

The Skins officially introduced their new head coach at a press conference this afternoon.

“I promise I won’t disappoint you. I’m gonna give it everything I’ve got,” said Shanahan.

The new coach seemed to indicate that the team wants to keep restricted free agent QB Jason Campbell, telling reporters that he “loves the way Jason handles himself” and that “hopefully his best years are ahead of him.”

As for troubled running back Clinton Portis, who has been in kind of a tiff with Campbell lately, Shanahan was clear as mud.

Shanahan told reporters that while he admired Portis’ toughness, it would really boil down to how hard he and other older players worked during the team’s offseason program.

Shanahan also praised the hiring of GM Bruce Allen, calling him “second to none” as an executive”.

As for the rest of the coaching staff, Shanahan promised not to make any immediate changes, aside from bringing on his son and former Houston Texans offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan to fill the same position in Washington, and said he would sit down with all of the current staff to find out their philosophies and beliefs.
