Why not?  He’s already on the iPhone and on YouTube.  Now, Pope Benedict is getting set to release an album.

The Pope will be performing litanies and chants as well as reciting passages and prayers in five different languages on the album, which will be released just before Christmas by Geffen Records.

The album will also feature the backing vocals of The Choir of the Philharmonic Academy of Rome along with modern recordings from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Colin Barlow, the president of Geffen Records, said he did not think it was odd to put out a religious record in Latin, Italian, Portuguese, French and German on a mainstream music label.

“I think in this day and age, as the public are, as I am, people are fascinated by all kinds of music. We’re not fed on one type of music,” he told Reuters Television.

The pope’s voice was recorded in St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican and during papal trips abroad.

The Pope’s album will be called “Alma Mater” and it is set for a November 30 release. Some of the proceeds will go towards supporting music education for poor children across the globe.
