Former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty on Thursday to weapons charges. His deal will include a 2-year prison term. A grand jury indicted Burress on weapons charges earlier in August for a self-inflicted gunshot wound last November.
Burress went before the grand jury in late July, facing the prospect of more than three years in prison if he were to go to trial on said weapons charges.
Should Plaxico Burress serve two years in prison, he is likely to miss the entire 2009 and 2010 seasons and his future in the NFL could be at risk.
Burress, 32, has been on the free agent market ever since New York released him back in April. He caught the game-winning touchdown pass in the final minutes of Super Bowl XLII for the Giants.
