Be careful. A new product recall has just hit the wires.
Federal officials announced on Monday that a California processor is going to recall about 1,000,000 pounds of pistachio products because of a possible salmonella contamination.
Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, located in Terra Bella, CA, decided on the pistachio recall after Kraft Foods discovered several srains of salmonella upon analysis of the product.
Kraft Foods contacted the Food and Drug Administration on March 24.
No illnesses have been reported in conjunction with the pistachio recall so far, though authorities are investigating two consumer complaints. FDA officials warned consumers not to eat pistachios until the scope of the contamination was clear.
This outbreak is not related to the peanut recall from earlier this year.
A Setton spokesman declined to comment on the situation, saying the company’s investigation was ongoing. Setton says on its website that their plant in California is the 2nd-largest pistachio processor in the U.S.
