Philip Markoff, the so-called “Craigslist Killer” who recently committed suicide in his jail cell, scrawled his ex-fiancee’s name in blood on the wall of his cell before taking his own life, according to a Massachusetts prosecutor.
The evidence so far would seem to indicate that Markoff cut himself several times with a makeshift scalpel he made out of a piece of metal and a pen.
He had written the words “Megan” and “pocket” on the wall before killing himself. Megan clearly refers to Markoff’s ex-fiancee, Megan McAllister, who initially defended Markoff, but no one yet knows the meaning of “pocket.”
Surveillance video from the scene shows that Markoff was alone in his cell between the time he turned off his light early on Sunday morning and the time his body was discovered about eight hours later.
Markoff had been arrested and charged with the April 14, 2009, fatal shooting of 25-year-old Julissa Brisman at Boston’s Copley Marriott Hotel. Police said that Brisman used Craigslist to advertise her masseuse services and that Markoff likely met her through the site.
He was also ip against charges in conjunction with robberies of women at hotels in Boston and in Rhode Island.
