A Pennsylvania newspaper is in some hot water today, having accidentally run a classified ad calling for President Barack Obama‘s assassination.
Warren Times Observer Publisher John Elchert says the ad appeared in the paper on Thursday. It read, “May Obama follow in the steps of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley and Kennedy!”
The four presidents were all assassinated.
Elchert tells The Associated Press that the newspaper’s staff of editors missed the subtle historical reference.
The Warren Times Observer has since turned all related information over to the police and the Secret Service is now investigating the person who placed the ad.
A note in Friday’s paper says the newspaper “apologizes for the oversight.”
