Paypal crashed this afternoon, sending online putting virtual shopping at a stand-still.

It's scary to imagine how much e-commerce has been lost due to the outage, but the number is sure to be staggering.

Just do a quick search for Paypal stories on Twitter and you'll see how much of an impact this had on our society. Things started returning to normal around 5pm EDT.

Here is what Paypal had to say about it...
