When you’re the President of the United States, you have to keep your finger on the pulse of the nation.
You have to know which celebrities are making headlines, you have to know which states are enduring natural disasters, and you certainly have to know which local sports teams are making national headlines. Whether or not you get their name right is another story, though.
During a fundraiser last night in South Florida, President Obama said, “It would be incomplete if I did not congratulate the city of Miami for having the world champion Miami Heats.”
“You guys earned it,” Obama added.
“And since one of my favorite people is [sic] Alonzo Mourning is here and Tracy Mourning,” he added. “I just want to give them a special shout out. Alonzo looks like he can still play. Hasn’t aged a bit…looks the same, except he doesn’t have a flat top.”
CBS News‘ Mark Knoller, who attended the event, tweeted, “Pres Obama congrats Miami ‘for having the world champion Miami Heats here in town.’ He said ‘Heats.’”
Way to go, Mr. President.
