The story of their unique friendship and Nubs' transition from dog of combat to relaxed California house pet is so extraordinary that Dennis wrote a children's book about it.

The book, "Nubs: The True Story of a Mutt, a Marine & a Miracle," was just published by Little, Brown Young Readers.

TODAY’s Meredith Vieira meets the pair and hears more about their story.
