If you receive a Notice of Unreported Income email from the IRS, beware...the note is a phishing scam.

The fake IRS message regarding income purports itself as a legitimate IRS Notice called a CP2000.

The note claims to be from no-reply@irs.gov but note that this is merely a phony email address.

The Notice of Unreported Income email looks like this:

Taxpayer ID: gortidd-00000174073547US
Tax Type: INCOME TAX
Issue: Unreported/Underreported Income (Fraud Application)

Please review your tax statement on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website (click on the link below):

Disregard the notice and do NOT click on the link in the message.
