It's not a good day at hi5. No, it's not an early April Fool's joke either.
The large social network is laying off about half of its staff today. hi5 previously employed about 100 people, so you can do the math.
VP of Marketing, Mike Trigg, said the layoffs were the result of a “realignment of the company” and that it was also a cost-cutting move.
About 62 million unique visitors hit hi5 every month, but only about 3 million of those are from the United States, according to ComScore. The site currently has around 80 million registered users but they just aren't in markets that advertisers are looking for.
