Elizabeth Lambert has been suspended from the University of New Mexico's women’s soccer team.
In the video shown here on Blippitt last week, Lambert’s on-field actions against BYU’s Kassidy Shumway have become the viral video of the month, being replayed on news outlets across the nation.
On Friday, the video clip was featured on ESPN's SportsCenter. In the clip, Lambert is shown beating opposing players, elbowing them and yanking them to the ground by pulling their hair.
Lambert says she is sorry.
"My actions were uncalled for. I let my emotions get the best of me in a heated situation. This is no way indicative of my character or the soccer player I am."
New Mexico coach Kit Vela had the following to say about Lambert:
"Liz is a quality student athlete but in this instance her actions clearly crossed the line of fair play and good sportsmanship."
Hey, you never know. She might have a future in pro wrestling.
