shaun white crash

UPDATE: Shaun White wins gold at Winter Olympics!

Shaun White, The Flying Tomato himself, had a wicked crash during one of his practice runs before the snowboarding phenom went on to win gold at the Winter X Games last night.

Miraculously, White was fine despite the crash only 45 minutes before his scheduled competition.  He will still be able to compete in the Winter Olympics in just about two weeks.

The accident occurred as Shaun White was practicing the double mctwist 1260, a stunt so tricky that he got his own private half-pipe to use for practice in Colorado in 2009.  During the stunt, he needs to perform two end-over-end, barrel-roll flips as well as three and a half rotations.

Unfortunately, he didn’t quite judge his landing correctly took a nasty smack on the chin that sent his helmet flying.

White was extremely frustrated, but mostly fine.  He went on to capture gold with that move with a score of 95.33.

He really is lucky to be alive after watching the video footage.  You can check it out below.  Remember, the crash looks a lot worse than it was…luckily.
