NASA has once again delayed Sunday evening’s launch of the space shuttle Endeavour due to strong thunderstorms in the area.
The team was literally within minutes of launching Endeavour and deploying 7 astronauts to the international space station. Storms, however, interfered with the safety rules established by NASA. The launch was scrapped for the day and the team will make another attempt on Monday.
This represented NASA’s 4th attempt to launch the shuttle within the last 30 days. Saturday’s space shuttle launch schedule was interrupted by lightning in the area. Hydrogen gas leaks were the catalyst for two NASA shuttle launch delays in the month of June.
NASA has until Tuesday, and possibly even Wednesday, to get Endeavour into space, along with the final piece of Japan’s space station lab. Otherwise, the space agency will be forced to wait until the end of July because of a Russian supply ship that’s awaiting liftoff.
