UPDATE: The Naked Cowboy has officially filed a lawsuit against the Naked Cowgirl.
New York’s well-known Naked Cowboy wants a woman who wears a bikini and calls herself “The Naked Cowgirl” to stop copying him and stealing his trademark.
The cowboy, whose real name is Robert Burck, is famous for playing his guitar in Times Square wearing nothing but underwear and a cowboy hat. He has fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Sandy Kane, who dons a red, white and blue bikini and matching cowboy hat.
The Naked Cowboy says if Kane is going to make money using his shtick, she should sign a “Naked Cowboy Franchise Agreement.” Most of his licensed franchisees (yes, there are some) must pay $5,000 per year or $500 per month and go through a screening process.
Kane, who is in her 50s, is an ex-stripper who’s now big on the comedy scene. Her real name is Sandra Brodsky and she maintains that she says she doesn’t owe Burck a single penny.
