The economic slowdown has taken its toll on MySpace.

The social networking site has laid off about 45 employees. The exact number is uncertain but MySpace cut a large portion of its staff.

MySpace execs have has refused to comment, so we don’t know the rationale behind the layoffs, bit it seems as though these positions will not be filled any time soon.

It is also unclear as to whether these layoffs are part of new CEO Owen Van Natta’s plan for the company. Van Natta took over as CEO at the end of April after co-founder Chris DeWolfe’s departure.
