I had a blast tonight attending my first SEO meetup. I had a little trouble finding the place, which is a bit ironic when you stop and think about it. Once there, however, I got to meet and network with a bunch of fellow, local SEO enthusiasts and professionals.
Having written and sold an e-book on the subject a couple of months ago (view the sales thread and buy it here, view all of the awesome feedback I received on the thread at the old forum here), it was fascinating to sit in a room and have an intelligent discussion about some of the cutting-edge SEO paradigms that are on the horizon.
I would like to take a second and give a shout-out to Jon Payne and all the folks at Ephricon (the brains behind this whole group, as well as the brains behind SearchMaryland), Murph (still one of my favorite SEO resources), Danny at WebsiteGrowers.com (let’s see what we can do about those links, Danny), Chris and Page over at r2i, Mike and the gang over Groove Commerce, and countless others whom I am sure I’m forgetting (sorry!).
Remember, just because you’re into Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, SEO, or SEM doesn’t mean you get to be a hermit. You still have to network. It’s not what you know, it’s WHO you know. Well, OK in SEO, it really IS what you know, and where you post it, and what your H1 tags are, and who links to it…
I will leave you with some SEO humor…
SEO-1: “Hey, we’re ranking for duplicate content.”
SEO-2: “How often?”
If you’re not an SEO, don’t even try. You will only hurt your brain.
P.S. – Don’t forget to buy a copy of SEO Supremacy.
