Now that Chick-Fil-A has publicly announced its opposition to gay marriage, The Muppets have revealed that they’re cutting ties with the fast food chain.
The trouble began when Chick-fil-A president and CEO Dan Cathy told said that the chain was “guilty as charged” when it came to supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
The Jim Henson Company has issued the following statement on its Facebook page:
“The Jim Henson Company has celebrated and embraced diversity and inclusiveness for over 50 years and we have notified Chick-fil-A that we do not wish to partner with them on any future endeavors. Lisa Henson, our CEO, is personally a strong supporter of gay marriage and has directed us to donate the payment we received from Chick-fil-A to GLAAD.”
How did Chick-Fil-A respond? The chain has now issued a “voluntary withdrawal” of the toys, citing safety concerns over “reports of children getting their fingers stuck in the holes of the puppets.”
It’s interesting to note that the Consumer Product Safety Commission has no record of any recall related to these toys, according to The Consumerist.
