MSNBC has just signed a deal with BNO News whereby they will oversee management of the @BreakingNews Twitter account, which currently has over 1.4 million followers.
BNO will now focus on growing its subscription-based wire service to sell to news companies. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but it doesn't look as though MSNBC will get any actual equity in BNO. Instead, it has become a paying client of the news service with control of the Twitter account.
This is similar to what transpired back in April of this year, when CNN acquired @cnnbrk, an account that had beaten CNN to the punch by creating a feed for breaking CNN news headlines.
This MSNBC-BNO deal is a little different, however, as BNO breaks its own stories, and it now hopes to sell its services to other news outlets, a la the Associated Press or Reuters.
Makes you with YOU had thought of it, doesn't it?
