Jigsaw Party

Some kids in Massachusetts are going to need therapy for the rest of their lives after a movie theater accidentally showed the first few minutes of “Saw 3D” instead of the animated movie “Megamind”.

The mixup occurred at a Showcase Cinemas, where the film was shown to a group of seven-year-olds who were celebrating a birthday.

Theater staff told the kids to cover their eyes while they tried to fix the blunder, but it took a while to get things straightened out. The children saw images of a man with his foot cut off as well as a woman being killed by a buzz saw.

Dolph Rau, whose son was at the movie, said: “My child came and slept with us and we thought we had gotten past that years ago. He said that he had a few nightmares. All that I would like to see come out of this is that it’s not going to happen again.”

A similar goof took place in 2007, when children were shown “The Hills Have Eyes 2″ instead of “The Last Mimzy” in another U.S. cinema.  The opening scene of that movie depicts a nude woman in chains birthing a deformed baby.

In both instances, free tickets were given out as compensation.

No word on whether Showcase Cinemas will be covering any child psychiatry bills.
