Halloween.  I love it.  The costumes, the candy, the tricks to boost your website traffic…

What?  You don’t boost your website traffic on Halloween?  Ah, well, allow me to help.

First of all, I want to thank my friend, Kris, over at Cash Tactics for helping me figure this out.

OK, I’m going to share with you an incredibly powerful yet underused source of traffic for your website.  Remember, people are surfing the net all kinds of ways nowadays, not just on their PC.

That’s right, we’re talking about the iPhone.  So how do you get traffic from iPhone users?

You must submit your website as an “iPhone Web App”.  Stick with me because there are a few other important steps to this process.

First, head over and sign up as an Apple Developer.  Go to the iPhone Web Apps Center.

Click on the box that says “How to Submit Your Web App”…

This take you to Apple’s “Developer Connection” where you once again click on, you guessed it, “Join Now”…

All right.  By now you’ve gotten yourself signed up.  Now it’s just a matter of navigating back to the “iPhone Web App Submission” page and logging in.

Then you just submit your “web app” info.  Yes, you are turning your website into a “web app”.  Just describe it and submit it…

Now you’re site is submitted to Apple.  There may be a brief “approval” period and then you are good-to-go.

You DO need to make sure that your website is configured to be iPhone-friendly.  Luckily, if you are using a Wordpress blog, this could not be any easier.

Just head over and download the WPtouch: Wordpress on iPhone plugin.  Just upload it to your site, activate it and you’re done.  You might to tweak some of the settings in the “Options” menu, however.

You will also need the Blip.it plugin if your site has videos.  This will allow them to be seen on the iPhone.

You may also want to install the FlickrRSS plugin if your site has a lot of photos.

Important Note: If you are using the WP-Cache plugin, you will have to tweak it to work with the WPtouch plugin.  Instructions can be found on the WPtouch homepage.  If you’re using the WP-Super-Cache plugin, sorry, it’s incompatible with WPtouch, although they are working on it, so keep checking the WPtouch homepage.

Whew, that wasn’t so bad now was it?  You should start seeing a bunch of traffic from iPhone users as they see your app come up under “New Apps”.  Now you can even say you’re an “Apple Developer”…lol.

Enjoy your traffic…and be sure to read “Monty’s Trick or Treat: Part II – The Treat“!
