Maria del Carmen Bousada gave birth to twins at the age of 66 back in December of 2006, making her the oldest woman to give birth. Now, she has died at the age of 69, leaving behind 2-year-old twins.

Bousada deceived a U.S. fertility clinic in Los Angeles about her age, telling the clinic's employees that she was only 55 years of age, the clinic's maximum age for women to receive in-vitro fertilization.

The Guinness Book of World Records has said that the 66-year-old was the oldest woman ever on record to give birth and the case caused some intense controversy regarding how much responsibility fertility clinics have over their patients.

Bousada had previously stated that the Pacific Fertility Center never asked her for any form of identification and maintained that, because her mother had died at the age of 101, she had a decent chance of living long enough to see her children grow up.

Bousada's brother reported the woman's death to the local newspaper, Diario de Cadiz, but didn't disclose the cause of death. The newspaper claims, however, that Bousada had been diagnosed with a tumor shortly after delivering the twins.

Ricardo Bousada told the Barcelona-based newspaper El Periodico de Catalunya that he had already sold the details of his sister's death to an as yet unidentified TV program and that the proceeds would go toward looking after his sister's twin boys, Pau and Christian.
