This is not a late April Fools joke. Scientists have discovered a 47-million-year-old monkey skeleton that is being hailed as the ‘missing link’ in human evolution.
The announcement was made via special news conference in New York.
The 95 percent-complete ‘lemur monkey’ – dubbed Ida – is being described as the “eighth wonder of the world”.
Researchers have presented their findings at RevealingTheLink.com.
The impact of this discovery on the world of palaeontology is being compared to that of “an asteroid falling down to Earth”.
Scientists say that proof of this transitional species confirms Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. Sir David Attenborough said that Charles Darwin “would have been thrilled” to see the new fossil because it tells us who we are and where we came from.
